Orange County Paraplegia Injury Attorneys
Compensation for Victims of Paraplegia
For more than three decades, the attorneys of Aitken Aitken Cohn have been focused on helping victims of spinal cord injuries that have resulted in paraplegia. Our commitment is to getting compensation for accident victims in Santa Ana and throughout California, and we put forth every effort to fulfill that commitment for every person we represent.
Definition of Paraplegia
Paraplegia is a type of paralysis that impacts the lower half of the body, including both legs. In medical terms, paraplegia is the result of an injury occurring below the first thoracic spinal cord nerve, or from vertebrae thoracic 2 to sacral 5 (T2 to S5). Depending on the specific part of the spine that has been damaged, the injury can also reach up as high as the chest, but use of arms and hands remains.
The most extreme forms of paraplegia leave the victim with no use of their legs. Less severe injuries may leave the victim with the ability to move hips, knees and feet to some extent, although walking is rarely possible without extreme effort.
Experience to Overcome all Challenges
At Aitken Aitken Cohn, we understand the challenges involved in handling paraplegia cases, because we have been handling them for decades. We know that we have to take great care to make certain the compensation we seek will be sufficient to cover a lifetime of medical needs.
Medical needs for a person who has suffered paraplegia may include live-in nursing care, which is extremely expensive. The cost of replacement wheelchairs must be considered, as one wheelchair will not last a lifetime. If our paraplegic client is able to drive a vehicle that has been adapted with hand controls, we want to make certain that expense is covered by the compensation as well. We work hard to make certain nothing is overlooked when we build the case for our client.
